What is the history of the Honor Code at Davidson?

The Honor Code is one of the most treasured traditions of Davidson College. The concept of honor was present in the college's founding, but the first pledge to obey college rules can be found in the 1845 college catalog.

In 1910, the first student council was established that included responsibility to oversee honor violations. This mostly came out of a desire to control hazing and the assumption that giving it to the students might make it more enforceable

In 1958 a separate honor council was established within the student government and in 1968, a separate Code of Responsibility was established.
