What is the history of the Department of Theatre at Davidson?
Officially, the college started the Department of Drama and Speech in 1963 with Rupert Barber as chair. There had been English faculty who oversaw drama productions - notably E.J. Erwin and William Goodykoontz, but no department until 1963. In 1980, the department name changed to Theatre and Speech. Today, it is the Department of Theatre.
