When was the Wearn Lecture dedicated?

March 12, 1988.

The dedication program includes the following description:

"The Joseph Henry and John MacDonald Wearn Lecture fund was established by the late Dr. Joseph T. Wearn '13 as a memorial to his father Joseph, a former Davidson trustee, and his brother John, who died in France in World War I. When Dr. Wearn was a first year student at Harvard Medical School, he attended a lecture by a Nobel Prize winner that influenced him throughout his professional life. He wanted to create a similar opportunity for Davidson students, and specified that the Wearn lecturer should be chosen by faculty for outstanding accomplishments in the sciences or for exceptional statesmanship.
Born in Charlotte in 1893, Dr. Wearn earned his bachelor of science degree from Davidson and his doctoral degree from Harvard Medical School. He served as professor and dean of medicine and vice president of medical affairs at Western Reserve University, and taught at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania. An Army veteran of World War I, he was awarded the Medal of Freedom for services performed during World War Il."
