What is the story behind the chandelier in Philanthropic Hall?

The chandelier in Philanthropic Hall was made in France and exhibited in the New York Crystal Palace in 1853. According to former Library Director and College Archivist Dr. Chalmers G. Davidson, it is said to be a duplicate of one at Versailles, under which Napoleon III and the Empress Eugenie were married.
